Field Research Manager – Exciting new career opportunity in field trials and R& D with a leading crop protection manufacturer. The Field Research Manager will lead a small Field Trials Team and also will lead, drive and execute field development, crop trials, and field data management in line with growth and R&D strategy for product development work, supporting global innovation: to include active substance screening; product concept validation; and combination approaches to deliver crop solutions.

The scope of this role is very wide and other important elements will include: –

  • Manage the planning for Field Trials Team and trials programmes to meet the business needs.
  • To deliver innovation and robust testing of product concepts and crop solutions
  • Design Field Experiment facilities and capabilities to satisfy research objectives
  • Crop husbandry, agronomy and soil management
  • Develop and train the team to ensure competence in field experiments.
  • Collaborate with the R&D and Technical teams
  • Manage the timeliness and quality of field data in accordance with the relevant study plans, COFRAC and EPPO guidelines
  • Establish, manage and monitor the principles of Good Experimental Practice (GEP).
  • Establish procedures to maintain all farm equipment and laboratory resources to high standard.
  • Manage the collection, storage and analysis of high quality field data
  • Ensure that team agronomy skills are developed through mentoring, day-to-day work and training.
  • Manage the capital expenditure requirements for the team
  • Drive field trials strategy and process for the future

 

  • Requirements: 
  • Relevant technical degree in agriculture, plant science, agronomy or similar
  • 4 years’ experience in field trials including selection of trial sites and field experimental design.
  • Ability to work as Study Director with clear understanding of principles of GEP
  • Agronomy, crop protection practices, and crop husbandry skills
  • Experience in operating agricultural machinery.
  • Organisational skills and ability to manage small team.
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal
  • Proven record keeping, data management and reporting expertise
  • Computer literacy including Excel and ARM.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Able to travel in UK, up to 25% of time
