Boortmalt, a leading malt producer have asked Hunter Chase Consultants to find a Barley Procurement Manager to join their UK team. This vacancy has arisen because of succession planning and Boortmalt are keen to find a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join their team at the Bury St Edmunds office. The main focus of the role will be to oversee the sourcing of high quality malting barley for the malting plants in England; to ensure that the needs of the business and their customers are met. This role will also involve developing risk management strategies and closely monitoring UK grain markets. The Barley Procurement Manager will liaise closely with the commercial and operational teams at Boortmalt and also with suppliers (Merchants, Trading Houses, Coops, Brokers, etc), trade associations and the EU commission.

This role could be of interest to candidates who are currently working as junior commodity traders, market analysts, farm traders, or procurement managers within the food and agriculture sector, and are seeking a new challenge within a successful, dynamic and vibrant international business. Person profile:

Degree calibre

2-5 years’ experience in an Agricultural commodity trading or procurement/buying role

Some experience of commodity markets including risk management and market drivers

Familiarity with malting barley markets – ideal but may not be essential

Ability to multitask

Attention to detail

Excellent communication and team-working skills

Sound decision making

Ability to work to tight deadlines

International outlook and awareness
